Money Diary Privacy Policy

Money Diary is developed and published by Shuyi Zhao (“we”, “us”, “our”). Money Diary is designed as an offline-first personal finance diary. Your spending, income, category, template, theme, recurring-payment, note, backup, and settings data is stored on your device by default. We do not operate an account system for Money Diary, and we do not run analytics, advertising, tracking, or third-party SDKs in the app.

This policy explains what data Money Diary handles, where it is stored, and how the app uses Apple and external services.

This data is stored locally on your device using Apple’s app storage technologies. We do not receive, access, or store this data on our own servers. We do not operate any servers for Money Diary.

iCloud Sync

Money Diary Pro includes optional iCloud Sync. iCloud Sync is off by default.

If you enable iCloud Sync, your Money Diary data is synced through Apple’s iCloud/CloudKit service using your Apple ID and your private iCloud database. The data is stored in your personal iCloud account, not in a shared or public database. We do not operate the iCloud service, and we do not receive or have access to the records synced through your iCloud account.

Your use of iCloud is also governed by Apple’s applicable iCloud and Apple ID terms and privacy policies.

Backups, Import, Export, and Data Reset

Money Diary can create local automatic backups on your device and, for Pro users, can export or import backup files. Before any of the destructive actions described below, the app automatically saves a local safety backup so you can recover if something goes wrong. These safety backups are stored on your device only and are never synced to iCloud.

Exported files may contain the Money Diary data you entered in the app. You control where exported files are saved and who can access them. If you save an exported file to iCloud Drive, Files, email, messaging apps, cloud storage, or another destination, that destination’s privacy practices may apply.

The app also includes destructive restore/reset tools, each scoped to a specific place so a single action can’t unexpectedly wipe more than you intend:

Exchange Rates

Money Diary supports multiple currencies and can refresh exchange rates from ExchangeRate-API (exchangerate-api.com), using this endpoint:

The exchange-rate request does not include your transactions, notes, categories, templates, recurring payments, backups, app settings, or advertising identifiers. As with any internet request, the exchange-rate provider may receive ordinary technical connection information, such as your IP address, under its own privacy practices. The provider’s servers may be located outside your country. Retrieved rates are cached on your device.

Currency rates are provided for convenience and may be delayed, unavailable, or inaccurate. Money Diary is not a banking, accounting, investment, tax, or financial-advice service.

Purchases

Money Diary Pro is purchased through Apple’s App Store using StoreKit. Apple processes the purchase and payment information under Apple’s own terms and privacy policy. We do not receive your payment card details, name, or Apple ID.

The app may read purchase entitlement information from Apple to unlock or restore Pro features. Apple may provide us aggregated, anonymized statistics about the app (such as download counts, sales reports, and — only if you have opted in to share diagnostics with developers — crash reports), which do not identify you within the app’s data.

Data Retention and Deletion

Because we do not collect your Money Diary records, we do not retain them on our servers, and there is no server-side copy for us to delete.

You can delete app data by using in-app delete/reset tools where available (Delete All Data for your device, Delete iCloud Data for your iCloud account), deleting individual records, deleting exported files from wherever you saved them, disabling iCloud Sync, deleting iCloud data through Apple’s own iCloud storage controls, or deleting the app from your device.

If you enabled iCloud Sync, deletion behavior may depend on Apple’s iCloud sync state and your other devices. Replacing or editing data on one synced device may propagate to other synced devices. Delete All Data and Delete iCloud Data are each scoped to only your device or only your iCloud account, and are available only while iCloud Sync is turned off — specifically to prevent one action from unexpectedly affecting both.

Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live (for example, the European Union, United Kingdom, or California), you may have legal rights over your personal data, such as the rights to access, correct, delete, or port it, or to object to certain processing.

Because Money Diary does not collect or store your personal data on our servers, there is no copy of your data that we could access, correct, delete, or export on your behalf. You can exercise full control directly: your records live on your device (and, if you enable iCloud Sync, in your personal iCloud account), and you can view, edit, export, or delete them at any time using the app and Apple’s iCloud controls.

We do not sell or share personal information as defined by the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), and we do not process personal data as a controller of your Money Diary records.

Children

Money Diary is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the app does not collect personal information from any user, it does not collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy if Money Diary’s features, data practices, or legal requirements change. If we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date and make the new policy available through the app or App Store listing.
